Chipita International (the Bakery & Confectionery Division of Vivartia), a Greek company, was established in 1973, producing savory snacks and cheese puffs. From 1986, when it underwent a change in management, Chipita began to get involved in other types of snacks. In 1991 it began to produce standardized packaged croissants with an eponymous label, initially in Greece and later in markets abroad. Based on constant research and development, the company improved and broadened the range of dough based products. Innovative ideas have led to new products such as mini croissants, strudels, tsoureki (brioche) and many others.

From that point on it established a Group of 50 companies at the production and commercial level covering the entire gambit of production, marketing and distribution of standardized baked goods.
With the constant development of high quality innovative products and the creation of strong brands, Chipita is present in over 30 countries, dominant in its category and recognized throughout Europe as one of the largest companies in the bakery products and snack sector.
Historical background
∙ 1973: Chipita International, the subsequent mother company of the Chipita Group of Companies, is established.
∙ 1991: Production initiation of the first packaged croissant with an eponymous label.
∙ 1994: Listed in the Athens Stock Exchange.
∙ 1995: Beginning of international expansion with the establishment of factories in Bulgaria and Romania and a number of countries outside Greece.
∙ 1997: Joint Venture in Egypt for production of croissants locally.
∙ 2001: Initiates commercial and production activities in St. Petersburg, Russia.
∙ 2005: Joint Venture in Nigeria for production of croissants locally.
∙ 2006: Chipita becomes the Bakery & Confectionery Division of Vivartia S.A (a merge of the 3 biggest food companies in Greece).
∙ 2007: Joint Venture in Saudi Arabia for production of croissants locally.
∙ 2007: Acquisition of Vivartia by Marfin Investment Group
∙ 2008: Vivartia (Bakery & Confectionery Division) acquires Nonni’s Food Company in the USA.
∙ 2010: Chipita acquisition by current owners led by S. Theodoropoulos, the person who achieved the international expansion of the company.

Chipita in Russia is established in 2001, producing croissant & cakes. Through countries expansion in production facilities through the following years, currently holds the leading position in croissants category under the international brand 7Days.
